How Tulum's climate affects your pool, month by month

Pool maintenance in Tulum changes four times a year: dry season (March to May) with maximum evaporation, rains (June to October) with chemical dilution, nortes (November to February) with wind-blown debris, and tourist high season (December to April) with bather load.

Rainy season: the June mistake

A heavy Tulum storm can add several centimetres of rainwater to the pool overnight. That water is soft and acidic: it lowers pH, dilutes chlorine and washes in leaves, soil and phosphate from the garden. The classic mistake is not testing after the rain and discovering three days later that the water has already turned. The rule in this season is simple: after every heavy rain, you test.

Nortes: why the problem is mechanical, not chemical

From November to February the cold fronts bring sustained wind. The pool doesn't lose chemistry: it fills with leaves, dust and, on the coast, sand. The skimmer saturates, the pump basket fills and flow drops. In this season, checking baskets every two days does more for the water than any product.

High season: the bather factor

And what about sargassum?

Sargassum doesn't get into the pool, but it does affect beachfront properties in Akumal, Soliman Bay and Tankah. During landfall season, decomposing sargassum releases hydrogen sulphide, which accelerates corrosion of exposed metal equipment and darkens the stainless steel of ladders and handrails. In those months we step up rinsing and protection of the equipment room.
