The Holistika area grew around the holistic centre of the same name, with narrow streets under jungle canopy and very little cleared ground.
Here the jungle was deliberately left standing, and that has a cost for the water: a constant fall of fine leaf litter, pollen and resin. Organic matter consumes chlorine directly, so a pool in Holistika burns more product than an identical one in town, even with nobody using it.
Many owners in this area want to minimize chlorine on principle. You can, but it demands something in exchange: more filtration, an immaculate skimmer and phosphate control. Without that, cutting chlorine in the middle of the jungle ends in green water within a week.

You can reduce it, not eliminate it. In a pool surrounded by jungle the combination of longer filtration, phosphate control and supplementary UV or ionization disinfection works well. Chlorine drops to minimal levels but never to zero: in this climate, without a disinfectant residual the water doesn't hold.
Two things change the outcome in Holistika: emptying the skimmer basket every couple of days (30 seconds of work) and putting up a shade net or cover during peak leaf-fall season. With that, weekly maintenance is enough. Without it, organic matter decomposes on the floor and tints the water.
