Several pools in La Ceiba have a shallow children's section, and that part is what causes problems: less volume, higher temperature and a heavy load of small users. The wading area destabilizes long before the main basin, and if they share a system, it drags both down.
When the wading pool and the main pool share a single pump and a single filter, it's impossible to hold different parameters in two bodies of water with different needs. Our recommendation here is usually to split the circuit or, if that isn't feasible, raise the residual and increase testing frequency in the shallow section.

It's normal and it has a physical explanation: less water volume, higher temperature from the shallow depth and a greater load per user. If they share equipment, the wading pool dictates the quality of both. The correct fix is splitting the circuit; if that isn't viable, we raise the residual and test there rather than in the large basin.
Yes. We work in the range of 1 to 3 ppm free chlorine with pH from 7.2 to 7.6, which is the internationally recommended range for recreational use. What stings children's eyes isn't that chlorine: it's chloramines from insufficient chlorine and pH out of range. We control both at every visit.
